Camera gimbals can be a form of passive vibration stabilization, rough manual aiming, active pitch/roll/yaw compensation for turbulence, and supposedly even active vibration stabilization in extreme cases. Camera gimbals that hold DSLRs steady on multirotors have matured to commercial, professional products very rapidly, despite paid contract work in this area presently being banned by the FAA in the US.
