Branding

Branding is a bitch. A Hong Kong manufacturer will build foam planes out of molds, and sell them to a Taiwanese kit builder who adds motors and instructions, who will sell them on AliBaba to a US importer, who will set up a website and sell them to US hobby shops bundled with a battery, who will sell them to consumers.

At each stage of the process, the product may be re-branded and the source deliberately obscured. To further complicate things, the product sourcing may fork and be sold in two different places as an identical product under two different names, or as a somewhat-less-than-identical product under the same name.

On top of this, some of those companies will be acquired or change their name or have two partners split the company down the middle. The initial reviews may still apply to the modified product, or they may not.

Buyer beware.
